This paper examines the position of music in Islamic Art through comparison with its position in western fine arts. This research begins with a survey among Islamic scholars perspectives’ and Western philosophers viewpoints’ and the comparison will carried out on the generalities and Art definition. Thereafter some musical theories will be inspected and through an analysis of the views the conclusion will be drawn. The main questions of this research would be whether Islamic music is the traditional music of Islamic countries people? And whether a phenomena addressed as Music is accepted in Islamic Art? If so, what are the criterions of lawful Islamic music?

The main purpose of this research was to impartially disambiguate Islamic Art theoretical grounds especially concerning music which has less attended and criticized than decorative arts and the results can be used for Islamic art researchers and musicians.
